ENGLISH OBJECT
2024
Recordings made in seclusion and immersion at the Land's End peninsula, Cornwall. Developed over the course of a spring and summer, the work documents a concern for threatened bird species expressed through devotional practice - theurgic and apotropaic acts performed with a set of unique bone instruments and markers.
THE RAYS
2022
The Rays used starling bones as indicators of a fox's journey: winter paths that shifted in meaning when I followed the flight of a cuckoo in spring into a kind of ritual closure and a new beginning. At that time, the bones suggested a sequence of hand gestures: signs and instructions for negotiating a unicursal labyrinth. Here fox and bird are not deprived of their occlusions but, for human senses at least, I thought to draw, through music and movements of a hand, an unambiguous route to the centre which is an enclosure for their shared spirit.
HAWTHRUM
2019
Recording made for a badger found under hawthorns at Lower Trenoweth, summer, 2019.
THE CROW GYRE
2018
For my mother, Elaine Carter, 7th January 1945 - 15th December 2018.
